Safety is such a key component of our company that we are the rare outfit who has a full-time dedicated Corporate Safety Manager responsible for implementing maintaining both OSHA and MSHA regulations. We also provide quality training to our field supervisory staff ensuring they have knowledge of specific field safety requirements such as site-specific training and other safety training needs.

Western’s Safety Department has been on the cutting edge for as long as we've been in business. As technology has become available, we’ve added technological improvements so we can continually stay a step ahead of competitors in all safety areas including training certification cards.
The use of digital information and equipment has made safety information and documentation clearer, more precise and readily available to anyone with internet access. Our employees have implemented a safety program that allows us to service all of today’s top security conscious facilities.
We continually strive to upgrade our efforts to provide our employees a safe work environment on your project.
Examples of our most recent upgrades are to have Western’s Certified Trainers issue training certifications that are virtually counterfeit proof. Additionally, we print the required labels and digital photographs of the employee that placed the barrier tape. Safety measures like these allow us to continually meet and exceed Lock out/Tag out safety requirements.
Mock Safety Inspections
At Western we have an impeccable track record for safety with our clients. Our vast knowledge of our clients’ facilities and both state and federal safety requirements sets us a part from other companies in the industry. So much so that regular clients have asked for mock safety inspections and we are happy to provide experienced staff that is dedicated to reducing violations and mitigating costs to your company.
Recently we conducted a “mock” MSHA safety site inspection for one of our clients. Our safety staff organized a plan and responded to the location where they were able to quickly and efficiently look the facility over from top to bottom. The results of the inspection greatly exceeded both the clients and our expectations.
With the current training and expertise our staff has we are able to provide useful tools during the mock inspections such as documenting via photograph each assumed violation, offering written explanations of the violation directly on the equipment involved. We also have the capability to provide an “in the field” map that allows the employee charged with correcting the violation a fully inclusive explanation of where the problem is and what needs to be done to correct the violation in a quick and efficient manner.

Western Refractory was the contractor that keyed the phrase, “Safety First”. We are represented by one of the premier Safety Committee’s in the industry.
All near-miss incidents are thoroughly investigated by Western’s on-site safety team and forwarded to our committee for further investigation. The committee makes recommendations for correction and our safety team implements these changes to the letter.
In our efforts to continually upgrade our safety service to our clients, Western has established an onsite Designated Medical Provider. This policy has reduced, and in some cases eliminated, lost time injuries at remote job sites.
