The August 2008 Smelter Shutdown was completed in a timely manner with over 170,000 man-hours worked by about 1,400 people. The safety record for this shutdown was remarkable with no lost time, 2 medical treatment and 14 first aid treatment injuries.
Favorable comments have been received by the Smelter Shutdown Team from KUCC top management and senior officials within Rio Tinto in London. We realize that it was a team effort and your contribution certainly helped in obtaining the favorable end results.

Just wanted to let you know how things were progressing on our recent start-up and to extend my thanks and gratitude on your company’s performance. We have been operating now for a little over three weeks with fairly good success. We still have a few engineering details to work out with our vendor, however things are progressing well.
I mainly wanted to thank your team for a job well done during our outage and precalciner modification. There was a tremendous amount of work to do and Kent and his group answered the call. They worked well with our people, Fuller, and H.B. Zachry to give us a first class job. We could not have completed the project when we did without your help and expertise.
